Mala Sirena

Mala Sirena tells the story of the original Hans Christian Anderson version of the Little Mermaid, through a mix of moody trip hop, narraration and sound effects. I used to love listening to "See & Tell" story records as a child, and wanted to do the same thing for more mature moods and musings.

This is also more or less my courtship present to my wife. The Little Mermaid is her favorite story, and i became enamored with the desire to tell it musically out of desperate, unrequited love. So i made her an album.

I was hanging out in the Coffee Cellar town, sharing a summer apartment with the friend i had first gone there to visit. He drove cab, and early one evening he showed up at the apartment where several of us were sitting around debating which bar to attend to, with a young woman he had just picked up from the airport. It was her first day in the states. She had come to go to graduate school, knew no one of course, and so he asked her if she wanted to come out with his friends.

We all ended up sharing a 3 floor, four bedroom house for the next year, truly one of the more interesting years i've had. A few months after the house came to a close, the two of us awoke in a small 1 bedroom apartment we were sharing to discover that we had fallen deeply in love.

As promised, it has been recently polished up. To those who have written me about Mala Sirena, thank you so much and your copies are on the way.
