About

My name is Paul Shapera, and Mocha Lab is the moniker I began using in the late 90s for the electronic, groove, trip jop albums i was begining to make. (As opposed to the theater oriented pieces or modern dance scores which i had been doing a lot of at the time.)

I am in my 30s and have traveled extensivly around the US, living in NY, San Fran, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Portland, OR, and even Prague and Belgrade amongst other places. Over the years, thanks to the wonder of modern music technology and the art of "Laptronica" my studio has evolved from something that used to fit in the back of my truck, to something that now fits in my backpack. The modern bard doesen't carry a lute, but a laptop.

Most of the projects I've done under the Mocha Lab nom de plume, or in some cases pieces of them, are available on this website for streaming. Have at it.

I have tendency towards concept based work, and it is rare that my albums do not have a particular theme or method around which they revolve.

The old html version of this site was given a really nice Flash upgrade by DJ Dacha, who runs http://www.deeplink.info/ if you like deep house. My thanks...

Any comments, questions, or queries, please submit to mochalab@gmail.com.

Cheers.
